Robert Rodriguez Spring 2013 RTW Draws Inspiration From Christia

Fashion week, or more accurately - fashion month, has begun. To kick off fashion week, Robert Rodriguez was one of the first designers to present his Spring 2013 ready to wear collection. The designer glided into the Mercer hotel, tanned and fresh off of a refreshing vacation in Bora Bora to prep for his presentation. This year Rodriguez wanted to focus on garment construction and neutrals - a stark contrast to the bright and colorful collections seen last year. The designer opted to do a lot of black and white, which did not take away from the collections opulence one bit. Drawing obvious inspiration from his Christian Dior background; Rodriguez presented beautifully constructed garments, each made of beautiful European textiles.

The collection included laminated raffia made to look like leather used to construct a moto-trench jacket, pleated skirts and minidresses. There was a silk baseball jacket, that was not my favorite but the designer made up for it with the all black jumpsuit and floor length dress, each strikingly simple with a sharp cut out on the back - adding just enough skin to bring out sexiness in each piece.

Robert Rodriguez is a contemporary label but with this collection he wanted to take his designs to the next level. Prints from the collection drew inspiration from baroque wallpaper, which can be clearly seen in the filigree pants and fit-and-flare dress that featured somewhat awkward peplumlike folds. Each piece was tailored to a tee, simple yet opulent in its construction and textile selection. Accessorized with necklaces and bracelets from the premier Robert Rodrigues jewelry line, we will be seeing a lot more of Rodriguez in both the ready to wear and jewelry departments of our favorite stores this spring.

About Robert Rodriguez

Inspired largely by Christian Dior the designer snagged his first position with the fashion house quickly after graduating from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. While working for the label Rodriguez gained notoriety for his excellent styling, love for fashion and dressmaking skills. With experience in the worlds of desirability, exclusivity, high-end craftsmanship and beauty, Robert Rodriguez launched his own collection in 2003. Today, the collection is still feminine, sexy, sophisticated and designed for style conscience women of all ages. Robert Rodriguez is committed to focusing on quality, fit and contemporary fashion. Starting by selecting quality European fabrics, Rodriguez creates silhouettes from there.
